Nelson Román
Nelson resides in Montclair, New Jersey with his wife, 2 sons along with his dogs.
As an advocate for his sons and for students with special needs, Nelson’s vision for Axis is to work with companies who can provide the best instructional content to support all students on all levels and to help them navigate K-12 school districts with their needs.
As the founder and President of Axis Learning Group, Nelson Román has over 30 years of experience in contracts negotiation, purchasing, sales, merchandising, and marketing. For the last 16 years, his background has been in the K-12 education and publishing distribution industry.
Nelson’s most notable experience has been the Director of Instructional Materials for the New York City Department of Education. In this capacity, he was the visionary to assess and restructure the content discovery and purchasing process that schools use to access and purchase their Instructional Materials. In addition to this role, he also managed the school systems external direct to student service contracts in the Arts and supported the Universal PreK Early Childhood initiative.
As the Divisional Merchandise Manager for the second largest wholesaler/distributor in the publishing industry, Nelson led their Academic Merchandising team to support the businesses of Public and Academic Library and independent college bookstore initiatives. He was also the lead team member for an initiative to acquire publisher digital content for their academic and public library customers.
